Julian E. Gaspar PhD (Emeritus)
Texas A&M University

Dr. Julian Gaspar is Clinical Professor Emeritus of Finance with Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School and an adjunct professor of International Business with the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, where he teaches International
Business and International Financial Management. Prior to his recent move to Washington, DC, Dr. Gaspar was the executive director of Texas A&M University’s Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). During his 30-year
tenure with the CIBER at Mays Business School, Professor Gaspar was instrumental in internationalizing Mays academic programs, faculty research, and outreach initiatives. As the director of one of America’s 15 CIBER business schools, Dr. Gaspar’s mission was to infuse and promote internationalization in business courses and curriculum. He was the architect of institutionalizing globalization content in Mays Business School curriculum through international business course design; study abroad and exchange program implementation; and introduction to business textbook authorship. Dr. Gaspar developed and led study abroad programs for business students to China, Europe, and India. Dr. Gaspar is an international economist by training, with three decades of expertise in country risk evaluation, investment project economic and financial analysis, and financial and industrial restructuring of emerging economies. His corporate experience stems from his years of work with Bank of America in Tokyo and San Francisco, where he conducted country and industry risk assessments and researched and analyzed debt problems of developing countries. During his tenure as an international economist with the World Bank Group in Washington, DC, Dr. Gaspar analyzed investment projects in Asia and designed financial and industrial restructuring programs for Poland and Cyprus. Dr. Gaspar received his PhD in international and monetary economics from Georgetown University, an MBA from Indiana University, and a BTech degree in chemical engineering from the University of Madras, India. Dr. Gaspar consults with the U.S. Department of State on business education reform in Central Asia and Russia, as well as development projects in Africa. Dr. Gaspar is the lead author of two textbooks: Introduction to Business (4e) and Introduction to Global Business (3e); and case studies on Russian business.

Leonard Bierman PhD
Texas A&M University

Leonard Bierman is a professor of management at Texas A&M University. He grew up in New Jersey and attended Cornell University and then the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Following law school, he did graduate work in economics at the
University of California, Los Angeles, as part of a fellowship in law and economics. He practiced law with two major law firms and held high-level positions at the U.S. Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the U.S. International Trade Commission. Professor Bierman teaches at Mays Business School and has also taught in both Italy and Russia, and has been a consultant to numerous organizations. He has been a visiting scholar at Harvard Law School in its Program on Negotiation and has been published widely in the labor relations/negotiations/international trade area. He and his wife, who works for a local religious organization, live in College Station, Texas, with their two children.

James W. Kolari PhD
Texas A&M University

James Kolari is the JP Morgan Chase Professor of Finance and academic director of the Global Corporate Banking Program in the Department of Finance About the Authors xxx About the Authors at Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School in College Station, Texas. He has taught money and capital markets as well as banking classes there since earning his PhD in finance in 1980. Over the years, he has held various appointments as a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Fulbright Scholar to the Bank of Finland, and Senior Research Fellow at the Swedish School of Business and Economics (Hanken), Finland, in addition to being a consultant to the U.S. Small Business Administration, U.S. Information Agency, and numerous banks and other organizations. With over 100 articles published in refereed journals, numerous other papers and monographs, 25 coauthored books, and over 200 competitive papers presented at academic conferences, he ranks in the top 1–2 percent of finance scholars in the United States. His papers have appeared in such domestic and international journals as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Business,Review of Financial Studies, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Banking and Finance, Critical Finance Review, Journal of Empirical Finance, Real Estate Economics, Journal of International Money and Finance, and the Scandinavian Journal of Economics. Papers in Chinese, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Russian, and Spanish have appeared outside of the United States. He is a coauthor of leading college textbooks in introductory business and commercial banking courses.

Katherin Taken Smith PhD
Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi

Dr. Katherine Taken Smith is an associate professor of marketing at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. She teaches at the RELLIS campus in Bryan, Texas. Her areas of interest include digital marketing and global marketing. Dr. Smith’s academic record includes numerous professional journal articles, books, conference presentations, and awards for teaching and research. Dr. Smith was named the Outstanding Author at Texas A&M University—Corpus Christi in 2018. She is on the editorial review board of five marketing journals. She is in the top 10 percent of authors on Research Gate and Social Science Research Network (SSRN) by downloaded articles. Her work is highly referenced, with over 3,800 citations per Google Scholar. She earned her DBA and MBA in marketing from Louisiana Tech University.

L. Murphy Smith PhD
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi

Dr. L. Murphy Smith, CPA is a professor of accounting at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. He teaches on the RELLIS Campus. His academic record includes over 200 research articles, 22 books, 180 conference presentations, 37 research grants, and 28 awards for teaching and research, such as the Outstanding Educator Award from the Texas Society of CPAs and the Outstanding International Accounting Educator Award from the American Accounting Association International Accounting Section. He ranks in the top 1 percent of authors on Social Science Research Network (SSRN) by downloaded articles (over 81,000). He is highly referenced, with over 4,200 citations to his work shown on Google Scholar. His work has been reported in various news media, including National Public Radio, Fortune, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal. He has given invited testimony at a congressional hearing regarding accounting and business ethics in Washington, DC. Among the journals in which he has published are Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, Contemporary Accounting Research, Research on Professional Responsibility and Ethics in Accounting, Accounting Horizons, Strategic Finance, and Journal of Accountancy. He serves as faculty advisor to the Student Accounting Society RELLIS Campus and faculty advisor to The Net, Interdenominational
Christian Student Organization TAMU-CC. Dr. Smith has provided litigation consulting on legal cases regarding ethics, international accounting, business valuation, and other matters. He has given numerous keynote addresses and invited speaker presentations at academic and professional meetings.

Antonio Arreola-Risa PhD
Texas A&M University

Dr. Tony Arreola-Risa is a faculty member in the Information and Operations Management Department at Mays Business School, Texas A&M University. For several years, he was the director of Texas A&M University’s Supply Chain Consortium. He received MS and PhD degrees in operations management from Stanford University, and an MS degree in industrial engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, and a  BS degree in industrial and systems engineering from Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM). Prior to joining Texas A&M University, he was on the faculty at ITESM and the University of Washington. He started his professional career as a production and inventory control analyst at a manufacturing firm. His primary research, teaching, and consulting interests are in the following two fields: (1) production-distribution systems with an emphasis on enterprise resource planning and supply-chain management; and (2) service operations with an emphasis on healthcare systems management. He has taught undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral courses. He has lectured in executive education programs and has consulted for various companies in the United States and abroad, including Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Neiman Marcus, Shell plc., and The Boeing Company. Dr. Arreola-Risa is on the CHI St. Joseph Health Board of Directors. His research can be found in the following academic journals: Computers & Operations Research, Decision Sciences, European Journal of Operational Research, IISE Transactions, International Journal of Production Research, Management Science, Naval Research Logistics, Production and Operations Management, and The Journal of the Spanish Society of Statistics and Operations Research. He is the coauthor of three other books: Linear Programming: An Introduction to Quantitative Decision Making, Introduction to Global Business, and Designing Supply Chains for New Product Development.
