Timothy R. Blair, Ph.D. (Late)
University of Central Florida

Timothy R. Blair is a Professor in Reading/Literacy in the College of Education at the University of Central Florida. He received his B.S. in Elementary Education and M.S. in Reading from Central Connecticut State University. His Ph.D. was awarded in Early Childhood/Elementary Education with a major in Reading at the University of Illinois. He is a former elementary classroom teacher and reading teacher at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels. At the university level, he has been assistant dean and director of teacher education and of field experiences initiating several partnerships with local schools and businesses including professional development schools.

 

Dr. Blair has authored several college textbooks on reading/literacy methods, diagnosis, and remediation including Principles and Practices of Teaching Reading now in the tenth edition, Teaching Children to Read in Diverse Communities and on diversity including New Teacher's Performance-Based Guide to Culturally Diverse Classrooms. He is the past editor of the journal Balanced Reading. He operates two free Saturday Morning Reading Camps and two Summer Reading Camps with his university students at two inner-city Orlando community centers with economically disadvantaged children. Dr. Blair is the 2008 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award in the College of Education at the University of Illinois.
